Climbing Mt. Whitney

Filed under: Travel in the U.S. — Heligypsy @ 11:51 am

That’s it, the peak with the stone cabin on top (I looked for a link about Muir Cabin to insert – would you believe the only one I found was from the Alaskan Naturalist group and included a picture of a nudist standing to the side???? I decided against it).

Keith had to go to Fresno on Tuesday and trade the Long Ranger for the Jet Ranger, we had a wonderful day flying there and back. Truly a breath-taking view coming over the top of Mt. Whitney. We flew over Scotty’s Castle in Death Valley in the morning,

and made a quick stop in the morning for coffee with my mom at the Bishop airport. Here’s an aerial of the Owens Valley, or as I call it, Home Sweet Home.

We’ll be posting some of the nearly 300 pictures I took on this 5 hour round-trip flight on the Webshots – keep an eye out for those updates (Loving the new camera!)

  1. Oh, how I appreciate Bishop now! I love going home, love being there, its so beautiful!

  2. Oh how I wish I were back home in Bishop, I miss it so much. But maybe that is because my children and grandchildren are still there. We will be coming for a visit in April. Thanks for the pictures. Those are my mountains

  4. I just have to laugh because I was going to say how much I miss looking at Bishop, breathing in Bishop, smelling Bishop (notice I didn’t mention living in Bishop) when I open this and see two other comments to the same effect.
There are a couple of jobs at Caltrans that I could apply for and actually started to. I imagine I’m going to be tangoing with my love/hate relationship with that place for my entire life.
I woke up one night last week with this crazy impression of colors and smells, a swirl of Bishop winter sunset colors, the sensation of clean cold crispness and the smell of sage. I don’t know if it was a dream or a desire that woke me up, but I was so homesick for two days that when I found the job announcement for the Caltrans job I was certain it was a “sign”.
I recovered from that, and my homesickness when I came to the realization that I just don’t have it in me to move again. Plus, you aren’t there, how fun could it possibly be?
